An "Old Wive's Tales" says that burning green poplar will help dissolve creosote. True or false?
Answer
That is indeed an old wives tale and holds no water. Creosote is the result of burning wet wood/inefficient fires and the only way to remove it is to have your chimney swept. One other product that can help is the Chimney Sweeping Log which may help remove creosote, but it's not a substitution for a proper cleaning.
