I picked up some wood and when I split it, it was mostly yellow on the inside with about a 1/2in of white in the growth ring. The bark is a very thick bark almost like an oak. If you know please let me know.
Thanks for all the help.

Eric,
I'm afraid that I won't be able to answer your question based upon the description. If you were to submit a picture, I might have a better idea but I can't guarantee that I'd be able to identify it.
Identifying firewood once it is already processed is much harder than Identifying a tree because outside of the bark and wood color, there aren't any other characteristics such as branching, form and leaves/needles to help out.
Perhaps more important than identifying the actual tree is looking at the characteristics of the wood. Is it heavy? Does it feel soft? Firewood heating value is basically the same for all species based upon weight. In other words, the more dense or heavy the wood, the better the heating value.
My suggestion is to let the wood season and then burn it next year. Good luck!
